You’ve likely noticed the links to a Premium section of our website. This is now well on the way to being launched and so it’s probably about time that we bring you a bit more info.
Note: Our first series is now live. You can find full details including a video trailer, notes on what you’ll learn, testimonials and more by clicking here.
Our Premium Area is where you’ll find video courses, filmed in depth and edited at length to bring you education and a spot of entertainment on hand tool woodworking. The content will be streamed or downloaded so you can view it on a range of devices directly over the internet.
Over the last year we’ve completed the filming of not one but two videos which will be the start to filling out our Premium section. Over the last few months I‘ve been able to knuckle down on the editing so we’re excitedly approaching the point where things will go live.
The first video is only weeks away. This one is a start to finish build of a small and elegant piece of furniture, all done entirely by hand. We designed this project to pack in as many techniques as possible, so there’s plenty of opportunity to pick up some tips, put in some practice and end up with a lovely piece of furniture to show off and use.
Later in the year we’ll be following up with our English Workbench video. This was actually the first to be filmed and is a very practical insight in to a traditional bench build with a simple and robust construction. You can learn a little more about the design and approach for this workbench by having a read through these posts from last year.
Workbench Video.
The Hardpoint Saw.
Hung Like A Donkey.
There are new ideas brewing up in Richard’s head daily, and now that he’s feeling much happier in front of the cameras we’re expecting to follow up with much more content. Alongside projects he’s bringing together his thoughts for some mini series’. It feels to us like this first video will be our version of a ‘Kickstarter’; to raise funding for our book and for getting this new side of our business off the ground. Your support here will be appreciated more than ever.

This looks very exciting. I look forward to checking this out. Can you say yet what the subscription will be?
Hi Steve,
We’ll bring a post with the format and pricing details very soon, we’re looking to avoid a monthly subscription though, we shall price per project / series.
I like that much better than the monthly.
I’m with Steve. Priced per project is much more likely to get my attention. My shop time is periodically limited, so it might take me months to finish something, depending on the time of year and whT else is going on in my life. I’ve never signed up for a recurring monthly service because I know it would be a waste of money during those times.
Excited to see what’s coming up next.
Also, Richard looks very comfortable in front of the camera now.
Looking forward to the bench build..
I’m already curious about the piece shown in the top picture. That looks like a nice project.
Hi Stefan, that’s from project number one, so there’ll be plenty more on it soon. Cheers.
I’m curious about the piece in the lead photo too — what is that?
Hi Joe, it’s what’s known as a spoon rack, or it’s a very useful variation on one.
PayPal is always great. I hate giving out my credit card info.
PayPal is the way we’ll go, we’re the same.
i think Richard is excellent and if videos thus far are anything to go by then sign me up .i have already fettle my cap iron and have had amazing results thanks to you both .i hope it goes well .
Many thanks Davidos, that’s great to hear.
Limited shop time makes monthly subscriptions very wasteful; I don’t do it. Per project is a far better idea from my perspective. I like the approach. Not only do I get to stage my efforts, I also get to not pay for projects of no interest to me. And it keeps you guys on your toes to make sure you offer attractive projects, so folks will sign up. We’ll get better, more relevant projects that way. Good all around as I know you’ll do it right.
Previews of projects will likely be an important feature to support marketing individual projects. That should be fun.
Good luck!
Many thanks Polly,
We’re on the same wavelength with the pay per project thing, it allows us to be more adaptive to suit what people want, and takes pressure off both parties.
I have some nice preview videos underway!
G’day, please don’t make your “fees” too high, as volume is the secret, not high prices.
EG – You are better getting 100 people to pay 1 pound for a video than 10 people paying 10 quid, word gets around quickly, if you you are too expensive people think you are greedy, and only in it for the money, to lavish a expensive life style.
In reply to “Steve May 27th, 2015 quote “people think you are greedy” I’ve been in business for over 35 years; it seems like most people are wanting something for nothing, so if it can be seen that this is being delivered, that’s good.
I can say that both of you are good professionals and at the end of the day should be handsomely rewarded for all your efforts, you are in your prime of life, now is the time to make hay and fill your barns.
A pound is worth nothing today; you have to think bigger than that, I wonder what the likes of say Channel 4 would pay for the rights for your programs?
Wonderful news! I look forward to more news and the launch.
Can’t wait for the launch. I’m sure it will be grand. Everything you two have done thus far has been top shelf and I’m sure this will be also.
Looking forward to this… would love to have a video of building the music stand that was suggested a while ago.
I have a request could you paint the walls of your shop?
No! Don’t paint the walls. The shop is right just the way it is. I’m not looking for spotless white walls with tools all organized perfectly. That isn’t real. I like seeing shops that look more like mine.
This is great news, count me in!
Would be great to see in details and good close-up how do you manage things like making a draw boring joint or joints in general. Another thing Im really interested in is all about drawers.
Thanks again for the great work you are doing here, you have great skills, passion for the craft and you are a great teacher.
Great I have been holding off building a new bench since you first let us know of this video last year, sign me up for that. I’m really glad you decided on a pay for project. That first video also looks interesting, a saw till?? Looking forward to it.
