After a year off the European Woodworking Show returns to the beautiful Cressing Temple Barns on the 12th & 13th of next month. We’re not showing this time round but will be going there on the Saturday to see things from the other side; for us this will be a day out as part of a long awaited short break that we’re taking.
The vistor experience is always well considered at the EWS, and everything from the setting, catering and ongoing demos & activities ensures that the family will be well occupied while you slip off to ogle the tools. This is a fantastic craft show, with carving, basket weaving, heavy horses, blacksmithing etc … the list goes on. But if it’s hand tools that you’re in to, then this is what it’s all about. The EWS is hosted by Classic Hand Tools and it is the only event in the country to put fine hand tools and their makers at it’s heart. Mike Hancock and his team do a wonderful job at attracting makers not only from the UK but worldwide, and this year sees more travelling in than ever.

In addition to the many returning makers there’ll be:
New makers from the UK;
- Oliver Sparks – Hand planes
- Skelton Saws – Hand saws
New to the show from abroad;
- Ron Hock – Hock Tools, USA
- Dave Jeske – Blue Spruce, USA
- Chris Vesper – Vesper Tools, Australia
And many more… [/column]
The thing I’ve noted about tool maker over the years is that they’re all really weird, I mean a remarkably friendly and inviting bunch. Don’t just visit because you’re looking to buy, visit because if you’re going to admire a tool or learn something about the craft then there’s no better way to hear it than from these people.
The new website for the show has heaps of info, and discounted tickets will be available online up until the 7th September… I’m off to order ours now.

I will be demonstrating guitar building at EWS for the first time this year. Please do stop by and say hello, Helen. It would be great to meet you and Richard!
Kieran
I’ll be there on the Saturday and hopefully will see you and Richard. It’s a very special show – probably the best woodworking show of the year.
Will be my first visit to the show although we’ve been to the amazing barn and gardens a few years ago.
Look forward to meeting you and thank you personally for your excellent videos.
Hope you are going to wear THE waistcoat so we can recognise you!
Richard
Meant to say I hope its Richard wearing the waistcoat!
Aye, you got a great picture of the weirdest one there, to be certain.
Unfortunately, Phil will be short an assistant at this show. I would like to make it out at some point in the future, though. 🙂
I will be there with a couple of marking gauges!
