I can’t be the first to point out to you that the weather’s doing its thing and it’s really feeling like the time to start getting cosy.
Usually I’d be panicking about being behind, like the year’s got away from me, but for once it’s lovely to be feeling in sync. Sort of.
I’m over the hump of a backlog of work that’s kept me up and out of the workshop most days this year, but as I’ve crept towards the end of it my mind has been switching on to new creations.
The new workshop is all set up now and it’s such a nice space that I can while away an evening in here and not notice the time pass by. As I’ve pottered on a project to share with you I’ve let the ideas keep growing and somehow one build has been emerging into plans for at least four or five.
It’s going to be a busy, cosy latter part of the year.
In my mind the best workshop isn’t filled with the most expensive kit but is set up to support being creative. A comfy chair should always be top on the list.
Filming alongside woodworking can stifle the flow though so I’m also feeling particularly proud of a new gadget that I’ve been building – it’s a tripod for holding the camera in any position I can think up, and it’s working brilliantly (I must show you it one day).
So. Workshop is set, ideas are flowing, and the filming has been going oddly smoothly.

We’re about ready now to get properly launched with plenty of new stuff.
Alongside a mix of builds, some simple, some more complex, we’ll also start going through your questions. I’ve been gathering up what you’ve been asking, I might not get to yours right away but I’m looking out for trends and will start to get into a flow of some new rants and rambles shortly.
Keep an eye out over the next few weeks.

I can’t take advantage of your offer because I already have everything! 😂 For anybody on the fence, every single video series has been gold.
Ha! My thoughts exactly 🙂
I have built three projects (at least…), the English work bench, the side table, the coffee table, oh yeah, the spoon rack and the hand plane as well. Ok, that’s five.
I also went through the sharpening video a couple of times.
I purchased the sideboard and desk projects for a recently renovated room – looking forward to building them!
same here, got all videos.
Looking forward to your new content
– and especially the rants and rambles!
Hello Richard, I am made up you’re back still making content. There’s something I emailed you about a while ago I’ve got to make good on! Would we be getting an upholstered armchair build coming our way any time?
I have clicked the link for th Master Hand Tools video a dozen times, at least. I’m convinced it doesn’t exist.
I’m in. Looking forward to new content.
Hello Richard,
I’m glad to read you plan to be back… I got “sharp” and “side table” series as I came across your work and YT promotion (which, I believe, I have used for one of the two only, duh!), but I then realized that you had been silent for a while – so maybe there wouldn’t be much “movement” around your paid content.
That would have been a pity, because despite the content being super informative and useful – especially for a novice like me – maybe a few points here and there would still need some extra verbal explanation…
So I look forward to your new wave of materials!
Ayup Richard,
glad to see you back and I’m looking forward to seeing the new projects. I’ve made the English Apron Bench and then a couple of Danish chairs and a spoonrack. I always find the projects difficult but the video and drawings make them possible.
I’m very glad you are still making content. As a professional trim carpenter in America I’ve learned that I the type of work you’re doing is much more what I would like to do. I really like your work, your voice, accent, all that and I like the indepth explanation of your viewpoint. As an actual professional woodworker outside of YouTube content. A lot of the YouTube channels only show techniques but not from the perspective of a woodworker doing customer work. Very valuable perspective you have. Thank you and God bless.
Brilliant to have you back. You videos were one of a few bright spots for me during the COVID shutdowns. Can’t wait to see what you’ve been cooking up. Some thoughts:
1) The old format worked well (for me). So perhaps evolution, but not revolution?
2) You teased a frame saw build eons ago… I’m curious your take on those tools and maybe a rebate saw/ kerfing plane as well?
3) For a future project: a dresser (chest of drawers) or wardrobe?
4) One of these days I’d love to see you run through all your kit.
5) Could you talk about frogs? I never see you fettle with it at all.
6) The insights you bring when you explain your design choices around hand tools are a tremendous help (I tend to design myself into corners).
7) Hide vs PVA… more on finishing… using figured woods…
I’ll be watching regardless, but some ideas from my corner of the globe. Cheers, and welcome back.
Richard, You are the new paul sellers 😀
Are the old Maguire Workbench videos still online?
